Prism VHS Specials

Trick Show ... No instruction here, just amazing flying.  See the Vapor and the 3D flying indoors. See the Illusion and Fanatic put through their paces on Kite Hill in Seattle. This VHS tape is a "must-have" for anyone interested in Prism history and amazing flying.  Running time: 10 minutes.  Price including USPS Media Mail delivery $8.50. (sorry, this offer is for US customers only) Click the button below to pay via PayPal.

Way to Fly ... The Prism crew thoroughly covers the basics of kite flying from initial set up to basic controls and landings.  In my opinion the best getting started video ever made.  If you are beyond this stage you must certainly know some one who could use this help.  Also a great way to pick up tips for teaching your new flying friends..  Running time: 32 minutes.  Price including USPS  Media Mail delivery $9.50  (sorry, this offer is for US customers only) Click the button below to pay via PayPal.

Advanced Way to Fly ... When this was released in 1996 it was the definitive trick guide.  Still a lot of worth while content and some really nice footage of classic Prisms in action.  Makes a great companion to the Way to Fly. Running time: 48 minutes.  Price including USPS  Media Mail delivery $12.50  (sorry, this offer is for US customers only) Click the button below to pay via PayPal.

The Whole Enchilada ... 3-pak of Prism VHS tapes.  What you get is 1 each Trick Show, Way to Fly and Advanced Way to Fly NTSC (US standard) videos.  Price including USPS  Media Mail delivery $27.50   (sorry, this offer is for US customers only) Click the button below to pay via PayPal.

Advanced Way to Fly clip

Amazing ...

Here's a short clip of one of my favorite flying sequences.  It's from the "Classic" Prism Trick Show video and features David Minzel flying a 2-stack of 3D's to Amazing Grace.
Remember?   Or maybe you got into kiting after this video was all the rage.  Either way we are putting together a special package of the old Prism VHS tapes (Way to Fly, Advanced Way to Fly and Trick Show) at a very attractive price.  So stay tuned for this special offer, and dust off the old VCR.

Widow Maker UL

Just received from Jon ...

"Information on the new upcoming  UL Widow Maker.

Wmul We have been working on this kite for awhile. What held us up is that we discovered that doing what we usually do for an ultra lite did not work with the Widow Maker.  The usual changing of 3.9 oz to 1.5 oz  leading edge tubes wasn't enough.  The weight difference in the sail was 18 grams. We then tried using 3pt's all around with a P-100 spine. The kite flew fine except the difference in wind range was not enough to justify doing the kite.  The standard does so well in lower winds that it made no sense to do the kite.  So we had to  figured out how to take more weight off the sail.  What we did end up doing is removing the mylar that runs along the trailing edge on the tail E panel, we used new 9oz dacron to replace the webbing material on the
nose and  changed a few other details to get the weight down without
compromising the durability of the sail.  This is more of a hybrid between a SUL and a UL.  We think this is a great addition to the standard.

The Frame All Sky Shark Tubes:

  • 2PT's in the leading edges
  • 3PT  Black Diamonds (clear coated) lower spreaders
  • Spine -  P-100
  • Top  spreader .1880 pultruded

We have also been using a new turbo bridle that was developed for the special Spider series kites .  The verdict is still out on which bridle is the best for the kite.  But I really think on the UL we are going to use the turbo. We have been flying this version and it does really well in the lower winds and still tricks great. It will come with a 10 gram weight for the tail which seems to do the job. We also have been working on a new UL sail with mylar that will be seam taped.  If it works is will come out right behind the new UL. We have to do some testing on this version, but it looks like it is going to work out OK, stay tuned."

Widowmaker

Thanks Jon.  Always great to get the info 'straight from the horses mouth' ... so to speak.

The plan is that these will be ready mid-March (but don't hold us to that).  Once we get the okay we will start taking pre-orders.  Kite will be available in the same colors as the standard and of course customs will be available.  Oh ... the best part?

Same price as the standards!

It is possible that Jon may be sending me a demo to try out and if that happens you can expect video and a review to follow.

As Jon said ... stay tuned!

Widow Maker UL?

I was asked about this in the Forum ... I know that Jon is working on one and have a call in to get some sort of idea as to availability date as well as pricing.  Should have that answer up this time tomorrow.

Soul due at any moment

If you are waiting for a new Flying Wings Soul, the wait is almost over ... if you haven't ordered one yet I suggest you get on it as I don't expect the first batch will last long.
My call this morning to the lovely Anne at Flying Wings confirmed that they are expecting them "at any minute".

Chico Fly July 2006

  • Mike Baker made the trip up from the east bay to join us this month. Sure wish we could have provided better conditions, but Mike seemed to deal well with typical Chico summer weather ... warm and spotty (at best) winds. Thanks for joining us Mike!

Chico Dec. 4 2005

  • Team SOHR came up to Chico to join us for a little fly and to pick up a new set of Mamba's for their newest member, Jason Bell. The wind and weather were perfect and the kites were all Blue Moons. Quite possibly the best fly of the year!

Blue Moon Exile

Pre-orders for the Exile will be taken starting Monday, May 22nd. Please wait until we announce the ordering procedure before contacting us to place your order. Actual production will start June 1st.
